In the collection, there are many physical apparatus, obtained and accumulated since 1869 by the predecessor of the present Kyoto University. In these apparatus, 332 items were purchased in the Meiji era, and 518 items before1945. Especially 49 items, purchased before 1881, are the valuable apparatus which make us to elucidate how the science education was in the earliest days of Modern Japan.

The collection is now preserved in the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies of Kyoto University. The apparatus ledgers and many documents related to the collection are also preserved in the Seimikyoku-Sanko Archives of the Faculty Library. Using them, we are able to know purchase prices, acquisition processes, and so on. There are some examples with brief explanations as follows.
