もどる Abstract:In this report, another examples of preservation of Japanese modern industrial technological heritage escaped from abandonment were explained. We take up here two British-made car wheel lathes build in the early 1900s, and they were used for a long time at the locomotive shed of rural private railways in Japan. Car wheel lathe is a kind of lathe as machine tool. It is not use for general machining but for wheel tyre shaving use only. One is an example of preservation of car wheel lathe at the museum of university. This lathe(build in 1905 by the Cravan Brothers and Co..,Manchester) has been used about 45 years at Nakaminato railway locomotive shed, Minato line of Ibaraki-kotsu Co.. At the scrap of this lathe, the museum of Industrial Technolory, Nippon Institute of Technology was inherited this machine for the purpose of mechanical engineering education for students. In this museum, stuffs and students took this machine to many functional pieces, skeched and reconstructed again to the original state. Now, this machine is exhibiting in this museum. Another is an example of preservation of same lathe at the museum of rural private railway. This machine(build in 1907 by the Cravan Brothers and Co..,Manchester) has been used about 60 years at Kaseda railway locomotive shed, Nansatsu line of Kagoshima-kotsu Co.. After the close of railway transportation business, this compony kept this historical machine a few years for the purpose of exhibition at the new Mansatsu Railway Museum. In this museum, there are steam locomotive, other rolling stock and many kinds of this railway's materials. The contents os this report are 1)Object of this report, 2)Outline and short history of Minato line of Ibaraki-kotsu Co. and Nansatsu line of Kagoshima-kotsu Co., 4)Conclusions and problems in the future.
